TAUNTON, Massachusetts – Unicus Pharmaceuticals, LLC, is proud to announce their selection as a 2019 TechConnect Innovation Awardee for their patent-pending SENSEUO™ technology. The TechConnect Innovation Awards identify the top 15% of submitted technologies as ranked by the TechConnect Corporate and Investment Partner Committee. Rankings are based on the potential positive impact the submitted technology will have on an industry sector.
Unicus Pharmaceuticals’ patent-pending SENSEUO™ technology provides safe, effective, non-toxic, and spontaneous elimination of urine odor. The unique odor eliminating material would dramatically change the lifestyle of people who suffer from adult/urinary incontinence.
Pinaki Majhi, Ph.D. President and CEO of Unicus Pharmaceuticals stated, “We are honored have our patent-pending SENSEUO™ technology selected as a 2019 TechConnect Innovation Awardee. Absorbent products currently in the marketplace for incontinence incorporate additives for odor control, which, unfortunately, have proven ineffective in obtaining the full level of odor control desired by many users. Our innovative technology addresses the root cause of the odors in a unique and effective manner.”
While disposable absorbents have been in the market since the 1980s, the technology was not able to address the related malodor of urine-exposed absorbents. Unicus’ patent-pending SENSEUO™ technology will address, for the first time, the malodor coming from urine-soaked absorbent products.
“This invention will drastically impact patients’ quality of life, in various healthcare and care facility settings, and for commercial industries that require large scale urine odor control. We look forward to bringing this groundbreaking product to the market and making a difference in peoples’ quality of life. Patients, who have no other choices to be free from incontinence but to deal with malodor of urine, will find a solution to improve the quality of their lives. Patients will gain freedom in being able to move without the embarrassment of urinary incontinence. Caregivers and family members will experience less of a burden of having to frequently change their patient. Nurses will be able to eliminate or reduce the need for catheterization.” stated Dr. Majhi.
In addition to the main applications of SENSEUO™ technology in diapers for adults with urinary incontinence, and for infants (0-4 years) with diapers, Unicus also has several promising applications outside the scope of this immediate project. These applications include, but are not limited to, products for the cleaning surfaces and public spaces, water-less urinals for developing countries, products for deodorizing pets and caged animals, recycling of urine into fertilizer which is odorless for developing countries, and products for astronauts, pilots, truck drivers.
